Starting to plan next summer’s adventure. Starting in NC and doing a big loop through through the PNW.. First pass is 6600 miles and about 70 nights.. plan is Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, wine country then up the coast.. looking for suggestions as to must see stops.. if it helps I can post 1st pass.. let me know
We visited Napa valley for some wine tasting a number of years ago and that was quite enjoyable. We also visited both Redwood and Crater Lake National parks.
There’s a lot of cool sites to see in that part of the country! Hope you enjoy the trip.
Man, as a northern Californian (transplant) I have to say that there is an incredible amount of things to see and do in northern California alone! You may want to focus a separate trip on just Cali. Bay Area can be difficult to find affordable RV parks - I would suggest Vineyard in Vacaville. They’re reasonable (for Ca) and close to wine country, Sacramento, San Francisco, Lake Berryessa, the Delta and so much more. Tahoe can be very crowded and streets were not designed with large rigs in mind, so look for a park on the outskirts. Also, you might want to avoid hwy 50 as it winds up and around some very steep mountain passes. Stick to I 80 for the least amount of white knuckled teeth gnashing. For suggestions on what to do: San Francisco - obviously, Alcatraz, Golden Gate park and bridge, the Exploratorium, Chinatown, Grace Cathedral, Coit Tower, California Academy of Sciences, de Young Museum, the Palace of Fine Arts, Sutro baths and Cliff House, Lombard Street, Piers 39 & 41, Rincon Park, Museum of Ice Cream in Union Square, the Presidio and it’s trail with amazing art installations by Andy Goldsworthy, Point Reyes and the cypress tunnel within it. Oakland - the Chabot Space and Science Center, Oakland Museum of California, Lake Merritt, Mountain View Cemetery, USS Potomac, Jack London Square, Children’s Fairyland, Jack London’s cabin, Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment, African American Museum & Library, In Santa Clara county - the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum. In San Jose - the Winchester Mystery House. Highway 1 to Big Sur and Hearst Castle and Jade Beach, In San Mateo county - the Ano Nuevo State Park which has a large population of elephant seals. In Santa Cruz County - the Bigfoot Discovery Museum, the Mystery Spot, the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk and it’s Giant Dipper rollercoaster, and the Roaring Camp Train Ride. Farther north, definitely Mount Lassen (must visit Bumpass Hell), and Mount Shasta too, Fort Bragg, the Lost Coast and black sand beaches, Humboldt county on the Redwood Hwy and the Avenue of Giants with stops at the Founders Grove…. Dang, these are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to NorCal and, quite frankly, I’ve run out of time to include more. This should get you started though! Have fun!
Thanks, we’re just going north from wine country.. not our first visit to there or San Francisco and points south. Primary goals are not city centric but national parks etc.. that you can’t miss.. we just love Napa/sonoma so just had to plan some time there.. same for Lake Tahoe… still remember spring skiing in shorts with the lake in tha background.. anyway keep the ideas coming
Swing through Boise and say hi! As your make your way through Idaho I would stay up north in the Coeur d’Alene area. I grew up in Boise but I am blown away by the beauty of our state in the central and northern regions.
