I just returned from a trip out to Elkhart, In and MORryde to get the Independent Suspension installed. Our unit is a 2020 (January delivery), so well out of warranty, and I’d been wanting to get the IS installed for quite awhile. I asked about including it in the Vanleigh order we submitted, but that was not something they would be able to offer.
After some broken leaf springs and hangers, my wife gave me the green light to get the IS. I called in October and got an appointment scheduled for the first week of January. MORryde runs a special in the winter months where they offer for IS customers a free rubber pin box, step above steps or a cargo tray. I’d been looking at switching to the rubber pin box anyway, so getting it for free during the IS install convinced me to schedule the install in January.
MORryde provides pretty comprehensive information about the process and their customer service team is great and very responsive to questions. I arrived early on Saturday for the Monday appointment to avoid any weather related issues. They start early on Monday at 6am and get the RV measurements and have you back into one of the service bays. They work quick and had me completed by 2pm on Tuesday.
I had them install the following items-
- Independent Suspension 8K axles (they re-used the existing disc brakes)
- Rubber Pin Box
- Step Above strut assist steps
- New tires (Sailun S637)
I weighed the rig before and after the install and the IS added about 800lbs according to the CAT scale on trailer axles. I went from 12600 to 13400 lbs and still within the RV and towing limits.
Cost for just the IS was around $6K (saved some by having them re-use the existing disc brakes). So far I’m pretty pleased with MORryde customer service and all of the components installed. The 1200 mile drive back home was noticeably smoother with the IS and RPB installed, especially on I-80 by Joliet, IL and the bomb craters on I-76 in NE Colorado.
One additional thing I found out from a another customer during the appointment was that MORryde would cover the cost of a hotel room during your stay if you couldn’t or didn’t want to stay in the RV. I’m not sure if that’s only during the winter months or not, but they covered the cost of 2 nights in a hotel for me while there which was a nice bonus. If you setup an appointment with MORryde during the winter it’d be a good idea to ask if that’s still available and which hotels are included.
Here’s some pictures I took during the appointment showing the different stages of the install.
