Important information, fridge and spare tire!

We were driving down interstate 10/12 extension west in Louisiana and a trucker was racing me, turns out he was trying to get my attention to tell me my spare tire was close to touching the ground, there was a recall on this so make sure yours has it, and periodically check your tire! The wrench to tighten in on aft wall of storage bay, passengers side. If you blow out your water lines for cold weather make sure you blow out the ice maker too, I didn’t and now have a leak from the refrigerator!

Good tip, my Beacon also was creeping down so now every morning when wiping down my Lippert hydraulic levelers before retracting, I check it too

Agreed a good tip. I check the spare along with the brake hubs and tires before a trip and at each fuel stop.

On our Beacon 39FBB, the residential refrigerator is in the kitchen slide and the water for the water dispenser and ice maker are fully exposed where they enter the bottom of the slide. Ours has the Whirlpool fridge and it developed a leak right at the water filter junction. It might’ve frozen up or just been faulty. I was able to replace the water lines in the fridge for less than $50 and about 30 minutes of taking apart the internal panels that hide the water lines.

When winterizing, I make sure to include running antifreeze through the fridge water supply, the dishwasher and the washing machine (both hot and cold supply). The washing machine is particularly challenging to access the water valves if they do get frozen and split.

Also check your spare tire on your tow vehicle.

I hit a bump and my spare tire winch on the truck let go launching the spare out under the rig taking out my sewer hose carrier and leaving the spare in the middle of the lane as we drove away.

I have always kept an eye on the spare on the rig as I have seen the stories with them failing. We were lucky not to get any damage to the rig as it went straight out and even more so extremely lucky we didnt injure somebody behind us. We only figured out where we dropped the tire as we have cameras on the rig and were able to go back through video and see it come out the back. Scary watching through that video as we did so to make sure we didnt cause a problem with other traffic and feared finding the outcome.

In the end I am not sure if checking the spare prior would have indicated a problem or if the winch failed on the bump. No matter I now check both spares on drive days - towing or not.

Thanks for the feedback!

I think you got lucky it didn’t bounce up forward of the back bumper, could have done a lot more damage, might come up through the floor.

Extremely lucky. Unfortunately an 18 wheeler did hit it but it kicked it off the road so it did not remain in traffic. A video clip for entertainment:
