I have a 2020 FLB and my gray tank will not open. I have looked in my basement for the pin, but I don’t see a space where that’s even at. Does anyone else have the same beacon? And they can help me out?
Hey Ziggy - We don’t have that model. I have heard on some models that don’t have the access point to the waste valves behind the wall in front storage compartment, that there might be an access panel/flap underneath in the coroplast. I’d think it would be not far from the outlet pipe for the grey tank.
Hey Stuart,
That access panel/flap is back by the black tank. Which is the complete opposite end of the grey tank. I will need to check the owners manual that I got and go from there. I even called VanLeigh and they couldn’t help me. Which I thought was pretty strange.
Ziggy I reached out to a friend that had a 21 FLB and he stated that his gray tank valve was behind the wall in the basement and the black tank valve was drivers side behind the rear axle that he had to cut a hole in the underbelly for. The valves in the basement can be hidden a bit as the holes in the floor aren’t very large and are usually surrounded by extra wiring and plumbing. The valve on my unit (not a FLB) is a good 8” into that hole and the valve opens parallel to the floor and underbelly.
The Vanleigh support guys (that really knew the product) were absorbed into other functions within Tiffin and the Tiffin motorhome support team took over the calls for the Vanleigh product line. Unfortunately this often leaves getting some of the answers a bit more difficult.
I have a few contacts at Tiffin I can attempt to reach out for a plumbing diagram for your specific unit. If I were in your situation I would have somebody else operate the valve so you can determine the general location by listening to the valve actuator operate and then pull out some of the nails holding the underbelly on the side and see if you can locate the right location to make a cut.
Ryan,
Getting a plumbing diagram would be great. I am not sure I want to cut the underbelly so I hope there is another way. I live alone and its hard to get someone to find to help me out, that I would trust.
So if you can get the drawing that would be great.
Thank you,
I do know for sure the FLBs have to have the underbelly cut to access one of the valves but should be the access to just the black valve.
I sent an email out and will hopefully hear from them tomorrow. Maybe somebody else in the group with the same rig will be able to provide their experience as well.
I do know that is access in the underbelly for the black tank. Hope to hear back from you tomorrow.
Thanks again Ryan.
Hey Ziggy, I have a LKB that has the grey tank valve inside behind the wall panel. If like mine yours would be in a cutout section of the floor with just a portion of the valve assembly sticking up. My grey tank did a similar thing and required me crawling inside and removing a panel, with a flashlight having my wife working the control switch in the utility bay I was able to locate the grey valve by the clicking action of the valve. The handle was turned off so the valve action was moving up and down but missing the actual valve. I was able to arrange it better and zip tie it to hold it in place. This has been working ok for 2 years now. Good luck,
Hey Ralph,
The issue is I do NOT have the said cutout that everyone is telling me about. Do you have a photo of that cutout? I have pulled everything out of the basement, taken down the panel, and there is nothing on the floor, only holes where the plumbing comes into the unit. And if that is supposed to be the cutout, they did a really poor job because there is no way I can get around the plumbing.
Thanks for your response.
Sorry Ziggy, a photo of mine wouldn’t do you any good then. But if you have a view of the inside basement area you should see your sinks drain pipes going down into the grey tank and that would give you an idea of where to look for the grey tank underneath. Then you may have a better idea of where to remove the coraplast underneath to be able to access the valve. Of course a plumbing schematic would be nice to have.
Good luck
I saw the tank yesterday, but it would need to be accessed from the underbelly. I am not very comfortable cutting into that. I don’t want to damage something else.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Ziggy were you able to get anything resolved with this? I heard back from Tiffin this being the response:
“We do not have a diagram but the gray tank valve should be about midship in the basement towards the main floor of the chassis. It will be sticking up in the basement floor, and there maybe some furnace lines covering it up.”
Hey RyanB,
Thank you for your email. I am so embarrassed —the tank was empty… I was positive that I had emptied almost a week ago. But at least I know where it is now. I will have to cut the underbelly to get to it. There is no 8x8 panel on my floor, but I do see where the tank is. Can’t get to it from the inside.
Hope you had a good weekend.
