Bubbling of internal wall staircase

Hi there we are in the process of getting the vanleigh out of storage and noticed some hard bubbles to the touch on one in side wall any advise input appreciated on how to fix and cause thanks

The wallboard is just 1/8" thick Lauan with a wallpaper type covering. I don’t think you can easily repair a small section and would probably need to replace the entire panel.

The pattern is strange looking and doesn’t look like typical bubbling from water damage, especially since you mentioned it seems to be hard to the touch.

For replacement I’d start with checking with Vanleigh as they could provide the right part numbers they used for the interior wallboard. Those panels are usually 4’x8’ in size and may not be easily shipped. Another option could be to check with the Tishoming service center as they may have information on the material used.

Thanks Stuart, I was thinking meanwhile to reseal around the window above form the outside with clear dicor

Unfortunately this is classic water damage. The hard bubbling is actually the backing glue clumping together when water intrusion occurs. That bubbling will be a bit soggy when the water intrusion is fresh but as it dries it becomes hard. I often see folks mistake this for mold in their walls due to the odd look and feel of it.

It might be difficult to patch this and during my long visits at Tishomingo or the Tiffin Service Center in Redbay I saw several units getting addressed by replacing the whole wall board. I had the same issue early on and was determined to be caused by a failed inner seal on the window. The Tiffin Service Center replaced the whole board. There is a lady there named Fallon who used to manage the wall lamination at the plant and she is extremely good at replacing those walls. You would not be able to tell I had anything replaced.

Hi there ok I started sealing the left and right side of the outside window with Dicor will finish the rest now I’m home with a big ladder 100 degrees touching up the delam of the top coat on the nose

Do I need to seal the inside and rubber also thanks

You probably are aware but the windows have sealant externally up top and around the top corners. My leak occurred due to the inner seal and it had to be replaced. When Vanleigh received the windows from LCI they would do the internal seals prior to install.

Once my window was removed it was determined my water damage came from water running off the top of the window where it was sealed but was able to get into the sides / bottom of the window due to how poorly the inner seal was placed. They pulled the inner seal and put a new one on to resolve the water penetration. Of course they also replaced the wall board from the damage.

It is possible that it can be addressed by the external seals. If I had the damage you have and the external sealant seemed to be good I would pull the window and reseal it. If you are thinking about replacing the wallboard you will end up pulling that window anyway so you could address it temporary with sealant around the whole thing.

In case you are unsure what I am referencing with the inner seal this video shows the process.

Awesome thanks Ryan, Yes im thinking to go around the top top corners and sides again with clear decor now i have a big ladder. to stabilise the issue, the awning is just above. appreciate all your infomation

Hi Ryan just to give you an update I used clear Dicor around the outside of the window and will do a second bead once the temperature drops, the bubbling has vanleigh stumped but will take you suggestion as we did has a little heavy rain back in Cali during a storm 18 mths ago may have penetrated

Lets hope that takes care of the issue - do keep us updated on it.

Thanks Ryan for all your help and knowledge, fingers crossed I have my honeydo list for the winter when its not 101 degree outside to complete for next year
