Another Spider control issue

In the process of getting the Vilano ready for the winter in FL. Pulled out of storage everything was fine, had a freeze come through last night, so turned the furnace on, disconnected water etc, when I left yesterday afternoon everything was fine. Drove to the camper this morning and the controller was not recognizing board one which has all the climate controls… not good.. did a power reset did not fix so open the panel and took a look everything was connected but made sure all connections were tight and surprise started working… anyone else have this issue? Or is just bad luck as that compartment looks like they just stuffed everything in and something shifted just enough wrong and my jiggle put it all back.

Thoughts?

I would agree with the last statement. I believe the Spyder control panels are well built units, but the installation was poorly done. I completely removed mine, sorted the cables, installed the panels, then supported the wiring. It is the wiring support that is most needed as these rigs bounce down the road. Your wiggle was the proof.

Roughly how long did that take, maybe a winter project while in Florida

Took me about 4-6 hours. Really not difficult, just tedious. I have a G12 Spyder.

Mine was bad when I bought it. Just as another person mentioned, the installation was horrendous and two boards shorted out. I had to clean up and attach wiring AND the boards, that were just laying amongst the wires, so that it wasn’t bouncing around and installed two new boards. I worked with Spyder control for the installation and ordered two back up boards in case something came loose and shorted again. Unfortunately, Vanleigh did a horrendous job, but Tiffin actually honored the #Warranty and paid me to do my own work. I am a certified RV tech and had a company at the time. I suggest contacting Spyder controls to troubleshoot the board.

Cynstress, when did you do that work? When the unit was new or?

It was brand spankin’ new! By the time the problem manifested, I was in a state that did not have a dealer authorized to work on Vanleigh. So, I called Tiffin. Vanleigh went out of business two days after I bought this rig. Tiffin was really awesome to work with. They sent the new boards and paid me to install them. They also paid me to clean up the wiring and attach things to walls so that they wouldn’t bounce around and short out again. I called Spyder controls to make sure that I was installing the boards correctly and I ordered additional boards from them to have on hand in case of failures. They were also awesome to deal with.

Ok thanks, I got my unit around the same time but didn’t discover the lazy wiring until recently so doubt tiffin will warranty.. good news is system works bad news is really could use a clean up on the install..

Jon Danzig Sent from my iPad please excuse any typos

Wanted to close the loop on this.. Had a mobile tech I trust come out and tidy things up.. He re routed all the wires, mounted the modules to the walls etc.. Overall took about 3 hours and his knees and in the compartment.. (I could have done it but my back etc. would have regretted that position). See attached pics before and after. Please excuse the not great pics.

Jon thanks for the update.

I believe the first time I saw how the G12s were haphazardly placed into that compartment was when Eric posted his. The previous version (G6) made for a much cleaner install as the unit was mounted. Looks good.

I can clearly see your Mira mounted back there in the second picture. Do you use your phone app to control the system?
