Replacing residential fridge

Welcome Easydays. Looks like @RV_Life hasn’t been on the site for 5months but he had a 365RL and he shouldn’t have had a problem getting into the front door with the doors of the fridge removed.

I know several that have replaced their residential fridges on other units without having to take out a window. My 34RLB (320) seemed a little tight but they swapped out my gas / electric without issue and was told they could put a residential through the door although I am not entirely convinced.

Hopefully he sees your post and is able to provide additional detail.

Hi RyanB, thank you for the kind welcome! I have a 2020 320GK and with all of the measurements that I have taken, it does appear that it could be done as you indicate with the fridge doors removed. I am having this work done this coming Friday and crossing my fingers that all goes well! I am not replacing with the original Samsung model, as I am going with a Frigidaire FRFG1723AV with the inverter style compressor similar to the original Samsung unit. The new Samsung model was not getting very good customer reviews.
It is good news to hear that others have successfully had this change out completed and I do appreciate you providing that tidbit of info. :folded_hands:t3:
I will update the thread with some photos of the process so maybe it will be helpful for others.

Hey RyanB, just a quick note. Both of these models are counter depth refrigerators… not as deep front to back as a standard fridge. It looked like RV_Life may have installed a standard depth unit from the photo that he provided. I definitely could be mistaken!

Thanks,
EasyDays

Easydays, i have a 370GB, i just swapped my LG for a Whirlpool. It was a pretty simple swap. Counter depth fridges are 24 inches deep without the doors. My trailer door is 28 inches. I took the doors off both refrigerators to give me more wiggle room and reduce the weight. The biggest problem i thought I was going to have was with the plate glued on the top of the fridge that fastened to the back wall. As it turned out my plate was not glued on very well and had already broken loose from the fridge. I re glued it onto to the new fridge. The other issue I did run into, my LG has leveling feet next to the wheels under the fridge, my whirlpool has leveling feet mounted with the wheels and part of the door hinge, the feet are in front of the wheels. I had to notch out a small piece on the top edge of the slide out trim to get it to fit back on.

Hi Ryan, B, just wanted to get back to the group with some information regarding the replacement of the Samsung residential refrigerator in my 2020 320GK. Even though I took many measurements and was relatively certain that the refrigerator could be taken out of the front door… I was wrong! With all doors off, we were still unable to get the refrigerator out through the door of this 320GK. We did end up removing the window at the dining room table to get this refrigerator out and the new one in. It only took about five minutes to remove this window, but as you can imagine it took several people (4) to complete the project. Long story short you cannot take a residential refrigerator out or in the doorway of this unit. The Frigidaire unit that I did install was roughly 2 inches shorter and 1 inch narrower than the Samsung model so I did end up needing to purchase the three steel L brackets and a dual tube of JB weld steel epoxy. Steely oxy was the 4 to 6 hour cure blend. This is used to attach the steel L bracket to the top of the refrigerator. It is exactly what is used for the original installation of this refrigerator. The reason I replaced the steel L brackets was because of the 2 inch height difference of the refrigerator and the L bracket is attached into a supporting 2 x 3 brace on the underside of the cabinet above the refrigerator. I hope this explanation is clear and not confusing to any of the users. If anybody has any questions, please just reach out and I would be more than happy to provide any additional details.

Hey LynnF, thank you so much for the info! I also removed the doors from my fridge but the counter and cabinet at the front door is just a couple of inches too close to the doorway in my 320GK to make it happen :face_with_diagonal_mouth:. regarding the leveling feet, I also had the same problem but I just knocked them off with a chisel and hammer. one quick blow and viola! they popped right off! I was pretty much over the “no fit” problems :joy:. the bottom wood trim piece went right on without a problem thankfully. thank you again for the helpful tips :+1:

That is a project I am sure you are happy to have behind you and to have that new fridge in place. I did had my doubts that they could do it in my unit when we discussed it and your findings and experience now confirm that. Thanks for coming back to update the group - its always good to hear how somebody accomplished the task.

Do you recall the model number of the Samsung that your removed? @SubSonar was asking about the model number for a warranty claim. I had the Dometic gas / electric so I am of no help.
